About · Our History
A road that began in 1919.
Over a century of rescues, lessons, journeys and firsts — the Automobile Association of Kenya has grown with the country it serves.
The journey so far
Milestones on our road.
-
1919
The Association is born
Motoring pioneers establish the Automobile Association in Kenya, bringing organised roadside support and motorist advocacy to East Africa's young road network.
-
1920s–1950s
Mapping and championing the motorist
The AA becomes the trusted voice of the motorist — route information, touring support and the earliest road-safety campaigns as the country's highways take shape.
-
1960s–1970s
Growing with a new nation
After independence, AA Kenya expands its branch network and services countrywide, training a new generation of drivers and standing beside a fast-growing motoring public.
-
1980s–1990s
Professional services era
Driving school, vehicle valuation and inspection services mature into professional divisions, while international motoring documents open the road beyond our borders.
-
2000s
Rescue at scale
The modern 24/7 road rescue operation takes shape — recoveries, accident scene management and rapid roadside assistance under the yellow-and-green livery.
-
2010s
The digital turn
Emergency help becomes a shortcode away with *650#, the AA Rescue app and a growing self-service portal. The AA Institute broadens professional training, and the Best Young Driver Challenge begins crowning champions who progress to the Africa finals.
